#MyDubai Winter

#MyDubai Winter

After being away for a couple of months, I've decided to get back into the blogosphere. I started university this September, and it has been very difficult to blog alongside classes. Now that I've got everything sorted, Fashion Laboratoire is going to be relaunched.

Expect lots of new features : More places to try and more things to do in both Abu Dhabi & Dubai.

Today I'm leaving you with 5 things you need for winter in the UAE -

A Cosy grey sweater that looks great and that will you keep you warm without breaking the bank.

A Neutral coloured bags - very functional. Camel, a go-to colour for all seasons, looks especially great in the winter when paired with dark hues.

A floppy felt hat - Paris à Dubai.
Dark Plum lips are a must this season. A statement lip pulls the whole look together.

A Perfect sent for those warm nights in.

Concert attire

Concert attire

One of my favorite summer outings are outdoor concerts - it's always a pleasure sitting on the lawn and listening to some good tunes.
This year in Abu Dhabi, we are treated to a show by Justin Timberlake - the pop icon.
Suit and ties aren't the go to pieces for us girls.
If you haven't planned your outfit, don't freak out yet.
I've put together an easy going, coachella /boho look to show off .
Comfort is key in the midst of a heavy crowd - staying cool is also a plus.
Sivvi.com can deliver all these items , the day after you place an order.Virtual shopping at its best.
I'm also in love with all the brands they stock , I'm talking Emma Cook, Halston Heritage , L.A.M.B ..

For this outfit you'll need:
- printed loose Aztec shorts , comfy and eye catching
- a plain breezy colored top to calm the look
- Classic converse (heels?ha)
- a headpiece by a hip new brand called Aura Headpieces (love me some local designers) , flower crowns are so 2012.
- stack some dainty rings for a discreet & cute way to compliment your mani

Grab your tickets & head to the du arena -
I know I will - birthday eve celebrations call for a concert .

Who says you can't look as good as that sorbet you just Instagramed?
The Pastel palette has been growing on me for the past few weeks.
Styled properly, it can take you from day to night in the freshest way.

It's pretty hard to step away from the dollhouse and high tea image but when paired with the right pieces this look is a no-brainer.

There are many ways to wear pastels. However you must keep in mind that :

1- Too many pastel colors in one ensemble is a big No No.
2- Layering or pairing different shades of the same pastel color isn't for everyone.

To start off you can incorporate some accessories into your outfit.
Also,do invest in mini bags this season in brights or pastels.( This Wang beauty is to die for).

The more adventurous ones, read on.

To achieve the perfect look you can go for a pastel piece with a bold piece.
Pastel pink and a bold fuchsia is a great combo.
On another note, pastel yellow looks great with a royal blue touch.

For another look you can pair two pastel colors together (evidently not green and yellow though).Pair pastel pink and pastel blue to look put together and spring ready. The light blue skirt from Topshop is a must have!

If you would rather play it safe, neutrals are the answer.White is the perfect canvas for pastel and so is tan.Try pairing this T by Alexander Wang top with a ruffled white skirt for a crisp look.

Finish off your look with metallics such as a silver mirror shoe or a thin belt.

" P.S
This trend is not inspired by Pop culture as E! would probably make you                 think.
As much as people want pop culture to have a say in the fashion world , I'd             keep Kanye West as far away from couture houses as possible. Chacun son
      truc. "

- A little peak into an upcoming post.

Barely there

Barely there

After being on a blogging hiatus for quite some time due to a hectic exam period  , I'm finally able to do what I really love.In the midst of all the fashion week glory , I've decided to give you a taste of what I've been craving and subsequently investing in!

I'm sure you concur that the weather in Dubai/Abu Dhabi has been quite bipolar.
It's like we have 4 seasons in a single day.I've even come up with a new term for this 'season' , Wing.
It's neither spring or winter here , and it's making my outfit choices particularly difficult.

In my season we wear lots of pastels, drink yummy Jasmin tea (I picked up from Hong Kong) and listen to Michael Buble.Oh and occasionally run by the beach on the corniche.

When we're not busy doing that, we do look for :

- Pastels & candy colors.Lots of them. After Celine showcased that Pink coat, I've been on the lookout for a more affordable version.(unsuccessfully)
But the Candy Colored Zara heels I've found recently are much more versatile and definitely pocket friendly (350 AED a pair).

- Dainty rings : the cutest and most versatile trend this season.Mix it up by stacking a bunch or just layer a couple of them. You can get a pack from H&M for 26 AED or invest in some lovely yellow or pink gold ones from your local jeweler.

- Essie's Topless and Barefoot : A passe partout shade that looks good on everyone.

- Scented Candles : no explanation needed.

- Organza Midis : who says you can't stand out when wearing neutrals? If you want to be a bit louder incorporate bold colors and prints to your neutral based ensemble.

- Plimsoles : Vans were a thing when I was younger. I guess Philo made them cool again.
These snake print babies are a good bargain from H&M..

Tis the season to wear sequins

Tis the season to wear sequins

New year's eve is just a couple of days away and I'm pretty sure half of you haven't got your outfits sorted.
One thing's for sure , no one's wearing any black.
This season is all about being jolly and glam so why not wear some sequins?
It's my major go to trend this holiday season. I've invested in everything from sweaters to Harem pants in bronze and silver hues.
Markus Lupfer is a sequin connoisseur and his sweaters are a must have.Shop his collection online at www.boutique1.com or head down to House of Fraser at Abu Dhabi's newly opened World Trade Center.

Try something new and recycle your sequinned pieces by wearing them in the day time.
Sequinned harem pants and a casual sweater is the perfect mix.

The Edit : PLAID, trend of the season

Plaid on plaid

As seen on the fall 2013 runway, this season we're craving checks and tartan! Your christmas season wardrobe is definitely sorted thanks to the likes of Moschino and Marc Jacobs.
How to wear tartan? Keep it simple with a tailored pant or skirt , or go bold by clashing prints.
Another way of sporting this trend is pairing tartan with leather , or even sequins and fur .

Some street style inspiration :

How gorgeous is Mira Duma's plaid skirt? Perfectly paired with a structured crop top.
