Fashion Forward season 2

Since I haven't gotten around to writing about Fashion Forward , I thought I'd write a small journal to let you in on the biggest fashion event in the UAE .
(better late than never)

This year, Fashion forward ,the definitive fashion platform for Dubai and the Middle East took place in the Madinat Jumeirah arena.
The second season saw the rise of a fashion movement which provided a platform and a progressive direction for fashion.
Local and emerging designers showcased their talent for 4 days and international names hosted interesting talks about numerous subjects.

I attended a few shows on day 1 and day 2 and I was very impressed by the turnout!

Ezra

Ezra never ceases to impress me.His eye for detail is astonishing.
My personal favourite was the big shoulders and the structured silhouettes.
The crystal swarovski embroidery he does always adds that extra glam to whatever fabric he's using whether it's lace, crepe or tulle.
This collection was a modern take on the 1920's golden era of fashion where glamour, beauty and art reigned.

The Emperor 1688

Inspired by Evelyn Waugh's classic novel Brideshead Re-visited  , Emperor 1688's collection is a perfect dapper man's dream.Fusing classic lines and sharp tailoring with prints , with prints and colours  inspired by the aristocracy during the summers of the early 1930s.The menswear collection sees bright blazers mixed with classic shorts and printed shirts punctuated with gold hardware. Ladies wear sees structured jackets, keeping the classic menswear lines, but adding feminine touches such as applique flowers and lace detailing.
The stunner look was the floral dress , with hand-stitched fresh flowers the 3 brothers worked on from 6 am that day,as they personally revealed!
The ladies two piece short suits and pastel coloured really appealed to me , however, I think the menswear was of larger interest to the spectators and designers themselves.

Nisa Tiwana and I with the Golkar brothers.

Madiyah Al Sharqi

Two words : MY FAVOURITE.Out of all the shows I watched this season , Madiyah al sharqi brought that special touch of hers to capture everyone's attention. The use of a stunning pastel coloured palette and rich fabrics such as organza and crepe as well as intricate embroidery made this collection a must have.
These cuts and sheer fabric is definitely a key trend next season!Very wearable.
The only thing the crowd could reproach was the fact that she did not come out at the end of the show.
Nevertheless, she received a well deserved round of applause which put her forward as one of the best local designers out there.

Charbel Zoe

This glitzy and revealing collection was quite the opposite of what I was expecting from a Lebanese designer.
As of aesthetics, his designs were very creative and gorgeously embroidered , but definitely not wearable.
No wonder the likes of Haifa Wehbe and Nicole Petty have been sporting his couture dresses.
I would have preferred a more wearable alternative , and less glitz and glam.
However, I am looking forward to see how Zoe will evolve in terms of future collections.
